Project

A Flexible, Multi-Feedstock, Multi-Product System

The BIOVAL concept is based on an integrated cascade/parallel biorefinery scheme, maximizing energy and mass efficiency to valorize waste streams into valuable products.

Feedstock strategy (Multi-Feedstock)

Biomass Wastes

Organic residues from digestate and agro-industrial sources (agriculture, husbandry).

Carbon Source

Industrial CO2 emissions, including the CO2 fraction from biogas.

Core technologies

Produces bio-H2 and SCCA (acetate-rich stream).
Uses SCCA and CO2 to yield Algal Oil (Heterotrophic) and Algal Oil + Astaxanthin (Mixotrophic).
Converts CO2 and H2 into Isopropanol (IPA) while upgrading biogas.
Converts Algal Oil into advanced Algal HVO.

Circular economy focus

Zero Carbon

Zero Waste

All in-situ CO2 is recycled for bioproduction HPF and microalgae.

Residual biomass is valorized through Anaerobic Digestion (AD) to produce biogas/CH4, and the digestate is transformed into Humus (fertilizer).
